The pins and sleeves are case hardened to allow articulation at higher pressures and to withstand the load pressure exerted by the rollers and the shock of engagement.

The strength of the conveyor chain has a series of different chain pitches: the minimum chain pitch depends on the sufficient strength requirements of the sprocket teeth, the maximum chain pitch is usually determined by the chain plate and the general rigid chain, if necessary, strengthen the chain plate. Sleeves in between can exceed the rated maximum chain pitch, but must remain on the teeth to remove gaps in the sleeves.
